UNCLE SHAWN 燒肉餐酒館 Review

5/5 Overall
5/5 Quality
5/5 Service
5/5 Fun
3/5 Value

UNCLE SHAWN 燒肉餐酒館 has the best BBQ in Taiwan. From the Quality, Service and Experience, it’s a full 5/5 from me.

If you want to dine at UNCLE SHAWN燒肉餐酒館 I highly recommend making a reservation. They speak English so there won’t be a language barrier.

Quality: UNCLE SHAWN 燒肉餐酒館 Best BBQ Restaurant in Taiwan

5/5 Quality
Favorites items: Marinated short rib, pork jowl, crispy rice. Any of the thick cut meats will come out super juicy since they cook it for you. All the meat is of a high quality and you’ll be craving more as soon as the best BBQ in Taiwan hits your lips.

They even do some seafood. They have a “scallop burger” that is comprised of scallops, shrimp and pesto sauce. It’s delicious, but a little too pricey for me.

I also enjoyed the uni topped with beef cooked by flamethrower. Super tasty!

For dessert, I tried the Dutch pancake because I’ve never had one before. That was just okay but I have no reference point. Since UNCLE SHAWN燒肉餐酒館 is the best BBQ place in Taipei, I won’t judge them by their dessert.

Service: UNCLE SHAWN 燒肉餐酒館 Best BBQ Restaurant in Taiwan

5/5 Service
First off, you don’t cook any of the food. They’ll bring the raw meat to the table and cook it for you piece by piece. Carefully cooking each piece to absolute perfection. For a better experience, get the thicket cuts of meat because they cook it so good that the meat stays incredibly juicy when it’s ready to eat.

The staff are all very warm and friendly. They’ll give you recommendations too based on what you like if you ask. The service is very fast, friendly and attentive. They provide drinking water and refill it before you even notice it’s been refilled.

They also provide protected clothing hangers if you want to protect your clothes from smelling like super delicious BBQ.

If you’re sitting at the bar, there’s a small shelf to hold your stuff and electrical outlets to charge your devices. Super thoughtful and convenient!

Fun: UNCLE SHAWN 燒肉餐酒館 Best BBQ Restaurant in Taiwan

5/5 Fun
Special Features but you might have to ask:
#1 If you can do 5 Chin-Ups, you’ll receive a free beer of your choice.
#2 Uncle Shawn 燒肉餐酒館 has a monthly chin-up competition where the monthly winner, gets that many beers the next month. So if you won the month of August with 25 chin-ups, you can come back in September and they will serve you up to 25 beers of your choice for free.
#3 If you buy the “Uncle’s Cube Cut Steak,” you get to play a classic Taiwanese dice game for a discount off your meal.

Uncle Shawn 燒肉餐酒館 has the best BBQ in Taiwan and is absolutely one of the best restaurants to eat in Taipei. Make a reservation before you next trip and you can thank me later.

Money In Taiwan

Tax Is Included In The Price

All displayed prices in Taiwan are the actual price. Tax is already included and for large purchases, tourists visiting Taiwan can get a 5% Taiwan VAT refund at the airport Tax Refund counter. Some shops offer this service too, but they will require your passport.

Taiwan Is Cash Only (For Most Small Shops)

The primary payment method for all transactions in Taiwan is cash. It’s very rare for small shops to take anything other than cash. It’s more common to see places accept the Taipei Metro Card as payment rather a credit card.

Supermarkets and convenience stores in Taiwan (7-Eleven, Family Mart) do not accept credit cards (at least not American credit cards). You can only make purchases by cash or by using your pre-loaded funds on your EasyCard.

Using Credit Cards in Taiwan

If you want to use your credit card in Taiwan, make sure to check if a restaurant in Taiwan accepts credit card in advance. When a place does accept credit card, it will typically be Visa or Mastercard. It’s extremely rare for a place to accept Discover and American Express.UberEats, HonestBee, Deliveroo and FoodPanda are Taipei Food Delivery Services where you can order food directly to your airbnb or hotel using a credit card.

Exchanging Money in Taiwan

You can exchange money at the airport or any bank in Taiwan. The rates vary from bank to bank and it can be a hassle to get a good rate. For additional information, check out my Exchanging Money In Taiwan Guide.
